Doc Rivers happy to see former Sixers guard Isaiah Joe land with Thunder

Doc Rivers is happy to see former Philadelphia 76ers guard Isaiah Joe land with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

CAMDEN, N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers had to make tough decisions to get the roster to the NBA limit of 15 active players and two players on two-way deals.

They released young players Isaiah Joe and Charles Bassey who have the potential to be very good players in this league. But the Sixers have so many veterans ahead of them they just wouldn’t have the opportunity to play.

Joe landed on his feet rather quickly. He signed with the rebuilding Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. As a young player, he will get an opportunity to play and grow for the Thunder and begin to recognize his potential.

“I talked to him yesterday (Saturday) and I’m very happy,” said coach Doc Rivers at practice on Sunday. “He’s got a shot and a shot to play. So I want him to do well. He’s a great kid.”

Joe will look to make an impact on the Thunder while Rivers and the Sixers will continue to prepare for the season opener on Tuesday against the Boston Celtics on the road.
