Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers has been dealing with COVID-19 for a majority of the 2021-22 season as it has hit his team pretty hard. The Sixers have had guys like Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, Matisse Thybulle, and others all miss time due to testing positive for the virus.
On Wednesday, Rivers got hit with some more COVID news that hit closer to home when his son, Denver Nuggets guard Austin Rivers, entered the health and safety protocols after he tested positive for the virus. He is now set to miss some time as he begins his recovery, but coach Rivers offered a positive update on his son.
“He’s doing good,” said Doc. “He said yesterday he felt nothing and then today he felt terrible. It’s amazing. With Joel, we’ve had so many guys, but it’s funny talking to Austin yesterday and today the difference, so this thing is real.”

Doc did reveal that Austin is vaccinated, but one can still catch the virus if one is. The vaccine just helps with the symptoms and it avoids a person from having to be hospitalized. The virus is still real and is still out there.
“I don’t know if he believed that, he’s been vaccinated and all that, but today, it was the first thing he said out of his mouth, he said whether didn’t think this was real is mistaken,” Doc finished. “This is real. He said I’ve never felt like this before, so he’ll be good, but a lot of guys, I’m worried again. Let’s see if we can get through this.”
