With 10 games to go in the regular season before the playoffs begin on May 22, the Philadelphia 76ers are looking to get everything together before that time so they are ready to go for when the games matter the most. On Friday, they signed a good veteran to their roster for the rest of the season.
The Sixers are expected to sign Anthony Tolliver for the rest of the season when his second 10-day contract does eventually expire and he is expected to make an impact on this team despite the lack of playing time.
He has been in the league for 14 seasons now so he understands the NBA grind and he has the wisdom to pass down to the other Sixers. He also is a known shooter at 37.3% from deep for his career despite the 1-for-7 start from beyond the arc with Philadelphia.
“He’s been good,” said coach Doc Rivers. “He’s ready when we call him and that’s what you want from him. He plays a smart brand of basketball, he takes charges, he knows where to space, how to space. He’s been really good for us.”
The aforementioned wisdom is important when players like Shake Milton or Matisse Thybulle have questions. They can go to Tolliver, or George Hill now for that matter, and they can get the answers they seek. Having veterans like Tolliver is helpful for any team.
“Now we’re having George Hill in that group, and Anthony, just more guys that can tell them what they see and they helped me too,” Rivers added. “When I will try to teach Shake or Furk (Furkan Korkmaz) or Matisse something, it’s great when a veteran can come behind you and say this is what he’s saying.”
The Sixers will lean on their veterans a bit more down the stretch of the season and into the playoffs. They will need everybody back and contributing to make the run they believe they can make.
