Doc Rivers comments on Tobias Harris’ struggles in road loss to Nets

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers comments on the struggles of Tobias Harris in a loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

The Philadelphia 76ers were primed to get back on track on Thursday against a very shorthanded Brooklyn Nets squad. While the Sixers were missing Tyrese Maxey, it didn’t compare to who the Nets were missing on Thursday.

The Nets were missing the likes of James Harden, LaMarcus Aldridge, Paul Millsap, and others and the Sixers were still not able to come away with a win as they fell in Brooklyn 114-105. The Sixers fell behind by as many as 20 and they were not able to overcome the deficit despite rallying to tie the game.

One player who will draw the ire of fans is Tobias Harris. The team’s starting forward only had 11 points on 3-for-17 shooting and he was 0-for-5 from deep. It is understandable to get upset at Harris, but he did have some great looks that he just wasn’t able to knockdown. It was just one of those nights.

“Yeah, I would hope,” said coach Doc Rivers. “I thought he rushed a couple. He had a great open 3 which would have put us up 1 in the corner. That was a big one. Those I don’t ever worry about. He’ll make more of those than he misses, but we did take a couple of tough shots tonight, too.”

The Sixers are working with Harris in order to get him back to making those quicker decisions. Philadelphia is a better team on the offensive end when Harris is able to step up and make those quick moves to the basket in order to help Joel Embiid.

Harris was terrific on Wednesday against the Miami Heat when he scored 24 points and he was able to get into a groove with those quick decisions. Rivers thought he did so against the Heat, but he was not able to do so consistently against the Nets.

“I thought last night, he did a good job overall getting back to the quick decision game,” said Rivers. “I thought it was in spurts tonight. Early on, he did it, then he went into the iso stage, then he went back to the quick decision basketball. He’s so good when he stays there and not to that other thing. We’ll get him there.”

Harris and the Sixers will look to get right on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans at home.
