Philadelphia 76ers guard Seth Curry was on a roll to begin the season. The veteran guard out of Duke was shooting 59.5% from deep through the first eight games of the season, but then he found out he tested positive for COVID on Jan. 7 and it has been a roller coaster since.
He returned to the lineup on Jan. 22 against the Boston Celtics and he shot 3-for-5 from deep in that one, but he shot 39.1% from deep overall since his return from the virus entering Saturday’s contest. All in all 39.1% from deep is not bad, but that percentage has come with some inconsistencies and his recent performances have been the same.
He shot 3-for-3 from deep and scored 15 points on Thursday, but he then followed that up with just four points and he was 1-for-7 from deep in Saturday’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He shot 1-for-13 from the floor overall.
“I don’t think he’s been very consistent since he’s returned from COVID,” said coach Doc Rivers. “We have heard that other players have been in and out like this as well. So, the best thing to do is just keep playing him and that’s what we’re doing.”
Rivers is right about other players having their inconsistencies since their return from the virus. Celtics star Jayson Tatum was dealing with his own issues before he finally was able to get back into a groove so there is hope for Curry to find that consistency groove again. It will all come with time.
His next opportunity comes on Monday against the Indiana Pacers at home.
