Do Titans still have enough cap space to sign Jadeveon Clowney?

After the Titans’ most recent signings and with more still to come, does the team still have the funds to sign Jadeveon Clowney?

As the offseason continues to progress, the Tennessee Titans are signing more and more players to fill out their roster, but do they still have enough cap space to sign Jadeveon Clowney down the road?

According to Over The Cap, the Titans’ Top 51 number has them sitting on around $20 million in available funds as of right now, however that doesn’t include five of the team’s six 2020 NFL Draft picks.

If we factor those rookies into the equation using estimates and account for the salaries they knock out of the Top 51, the Titans will likely be sitting with around $17 to $18 million in cap space when it’s all said and done.

Tennessee has also mostly filled out its 90-man roster for training camp, with 87 players currently under contract.

Based on the last report we saw in regard to his asking price, Clowney’s demands have come down from the $20 million or more per year he was originally seeking to around $17 to $18 million.

I think it’s realistic to expect that Clowney will probably get more in the range of $15 million at this late stage of the game, but perhaps it’s higher than that after he’s able to get a physical, which is what he’s waiting for.

While it would seem the Titans just barely have enough, it’s important to note that general manager Jon Robinson can easily move money around in multiple ways, which includes restructuring contracts.

In the event that Clowney doesn’t come to Nashville, the Titans will have the flexibility to bring in multiple players left on the market, although none of them would help soften the blow of losing Jurrell Casey like Clowney can.
