Do the Celtics need to upgrade their center depth?

The Boston Celtics have some options if they choose to trade for an additional big man during the season.

The Boston Celtics have two high-level centers in their rotation. Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford are both starting-level talents in the NBA. However, there are some legitimate injury concerns surrounding both big men. Luke Kornet is the third-string center and is the primary backup, as we’re seeing, while Porzingis is currently sidelined with a calf injury.

As such, there has been some debate as to whether the Celtics should look to upgrade their big man depth before the February 8 trade deadline. Boston’s cap situation makes finding a legitimate upgrade difficult. Furthermore, any third-string big will have limitations, so Brad Stevens will need to weigh the costs compared to any potential upgrade.

In the latest episode of the “Green With Envy” podcast, hosts Will Weir and Adam Taylor discuss potential trade options for the Celtics. Would Andre Drummond’s size and physicality be an upgrade over Kornet? How about Xavier Tillman from the Memphis Grizzlies or even Kenny Lofton Jr.? The hosts dive into the pros and cons of multiple potential trade options.
