If anyone has watched football in the last, oh, I’m not sure, let’s say the last decade, it’s been more than evident who is among the best linebackers in football. One such player hasn’t just been among the best, he’s been arguably the best.
Of course I am talking about Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner, who has terrorized ball carriers and pass catchers attempting to cross the middle of the field ever since he came to the NFL in 2012.
Wagner has been routinely the best, but there are some who might no longer recognize his greatness. In a recent survey, NFL executives, players scouts and coaches ranked the top linebackers. However, they seemed to have left Wagner out of the Top 10, and relegated him to “honorable mention” status.
Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf certainly seemed to take exception to “honorable mention.”

It wasn’t just Metcalf, but fellow defender Quandre Diggs – who lobbied Seattle repeatedly to bring Wagner back home – also jumped in.
Not just 9X but he was All Pro just last year!! https://t.co/rleuTbAuPJ

Diggs is right, Wagner was 2nd team All Pro for linebackers in 2022. He had 140 tackles, six sacks, and two interceptions – including one of Geno Smith.
Wagner may no longer be the undisputed No. 1 overall linebacker in football the way he was for so many years, but to ignore him as a Top 10 caliber player at the position feels wrong.
