DJ Lagway predicts winning record, ‘excited’ for 2024 season

There are a lot of folk in the Florida Gators’ sphere who are feeling good about the team’s chances in 2024, including DJ Lagway.

The heat is on in Gainesville this coming fall as the Florida football program looks to snap its streak of three straight losing seasons. The bad news is that the upcoming schedule might be the toughest in the nation; the good news is there is a great deal of optimism surrounding the Swamp.

Last week, Florida’s five-star incoming freshman quarterback [autotag]DJ Lagway[/autotag] spoke with Gators Wire about a handful of topics, including the upcoming campaign. When asked if he believed the Orange and Blue would break the .500 mark, he responded optimistically.

“Oh, that’s the easy question,” Lagway replied. “I think we’ll definitely have over a .500 record. I feel like we have enough leaders, enough veterans and enough young guys to get this thing going and to continue the winning tradition. You know, I feel like we’re going to get it back going and I’m excited for the season.”

Chris Doering also feeling bullish

Legendary Gators wide receiver Chris Doering spoke with ESPN analyst Peter Burns just before the start of SEC media days this week. The UF alumnus is a bit more confident in his alma mater than many of his other media peers, taking the over for his former team according to recent betting odds.

“So we can look at what the public thought is by – Vegas sometimes gives us an idea of what the public’s thinking. The over/under on win total on the University of Florida is 4.5 wins,” Doering notes.

“I think Florida ends up winning seven, maybe eight games. And I know everybody’s looking at the schedule and talking about how challenging that is, but I think people are sleeping on the roster improvements that have taken place.”

Florida’s 2024 season opener

The Florida and the Miami Hurricanes open their schedule on Aug. 31 in Gainesville, Florida. Kickoff time is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ABC Sports.
