Dixie State at Gonzaga: Three things to know

  1. The Trailblazers of Dixie State have covered in all three of their contests with a spread available so far. The WAC representative will obviously be facing their biggest test in school history. DSU is averaging 80.2 points per game, with a field-goal percentage of 48.9, and the Blazers are allowing opponents to hit triples at just a 25.5% clip, good for 17th in the country.
  2. Gonzaga mowed down Northern Arizona 88-58 Monday and perhaps the only advantage Dixie State holds is that the Zags are playing the second half of a back-to-back. They didn’t cover a 38-point number against NAU, and they’re 0-3 ATS in three games with a spread of 38 or more so far this season.
  3. The Bulldogs have registered 94.3 PPG so far, ranking third in the nation, while checking in fourth in the country with a 55.0 field-goal percentage. Defensively, the Zags are allowing 74.4 PPG to rank 254th overall. Gonzaga has struggled a bit at the free-throw stripe, too, hitting just 70.0% from the line through eight games.

Dixie State at Gonzaga: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Gonzaga 97, Dixie State 63

Money line (ML)

No money line was listed at the time of publishing. It wouldn’t be worth pursuing, anyway.

Against the spread (ATS)

DIXIE STATE +37.5 (-115) is worth playing lightly, mainly because Gonzaga tends to take its foot off the gas and show some class once the game is out of hand and already decided.

The Bulldogs don’t rub salt in wounds, as is indicated by their 0-3 ATS mark in games with a spread of 38 or higher. While it’s tough backing a team that sounds like it’s from the movie He Got Game, playing in the same conference as Big State or Tech U, the Trailblazers are going to give you a winning ticket to cash.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 166.5 (-110) is the play, even though Gonzaga has allowed 74.4 PPG. The numbers are skewed a bit since the Bulldogs have faced the likes of Auburn, Iowa, Kansas, Virginia and West Virginia. The Trailblazers are not going to have the same kind of success on offense as those behemoths. This one goes Under, even if Gonzaga flirts with the century mark.
