The notion of being disrespected can be overdone. Highly credentialed and successful teams can embellish the idea that “the world is against us” or “no one expects us to do well.” To be sure, there are some people who think USC will do well in 2022.
However, a lot of analysts and experts don’t think so. More precisely, Pac-12 media voters and coaches poll voters think USC won’t even make the Pac-12 Championship Game. Media members and coaches both think the Trojans will finish third in the Pac-12 Conference this year, behind Utah and Oregon.
If only one of the two — media and coaches — had USC third, the notion of being disrespected would be overplayed. Both, however, have expressed skepticism about what the Trojans can achieve. Therefore, the idea that USC is being disrespected holds a certain degree of legitimacy.
