You caused a bit of a stir recently when you did a podcast with German soccer star Toni Kroos and his brother Felix (who also played professionally) and you talked about some conflicting thoughts you’ve had about your last two seasons in the NBA and how much the added pounding has affected your movement now in retirement. Then a lot of your fans were concerned watching some labored steps during the halftime ceremonies in Cleveland. How much trouble is the ankle giving you these days? Dirk Nowitzki: I mean it’s true that I’m having some problems. There’s good days and there’s bad days. But I can still play tennis a little bit — I just played doubles this morning [Sunday] and I moved OK. I lost 20 pounds and that definitely helped and maybe I need to lose another 10 to 15 and that will help a little more. It’s never easy to know exactly the right time to stop [playing], but I actually have some really good days where I’m without pain
