The Oklahoma Sooners were tied with the BYU Cougars at 17 at halftime. That was not nearly as surprising as the report coming out of Provo that Dillon Gabriel was out and Jackson Arnold was set to take over.
According to a report from the OU Radio Crew and Gabe Ikard, Gabriel suffered a head injury that will keep him out.
The Sooners have come out of the locker room and Dillon Gabriel is not warming up. It appears it’ll be Jackson Arnold at QB for the Sooners the rest of the way.

The question came up earlier in the week whether the Oklahoma Sooners would look to preserve Arnold’s redshirt. That question is moot at this point as Arnold takes over at quarterback.
The first couple of drives didn’t go very well for the true freshman as Oklahoma was unable to get a first down. He had a big 28-yard penalty that was called back due to an illegal block.
However, the Sooners were able to take the lead on a Billy Bowman 100-yard interception return for a touchdown as BYU was threatening.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Sooners can rally on both sides of the ball to support their true freshman or if Jeff Lebby will open up the playbook to let his former Gatorade National Player for the Year sling it.
