According to Harrell, Reynolds was at one point approached by a strange man holding a picture of Leo Brothers and asked if he would be testifying against him. Reynolds was also approached by a group of seven men, including Foster and shown a gun in as a means of intimidation.
A pair of letters sent to Reynolds then shared quite the threat to not just him but the entire university.
Two letters sent to Reynolds carried the same ominous message: Notre Dame will be more sorry than it realizes if they allow you to testify.
Reynolds testified on March 27, 1930 that “He answered the description” according to Harrell’s story. The very next day is when Reynolds happened to bump into Rockne and give the coach his ticket that would head to Los Angeles from Kansas City.
Rockne then took a train to Kansas City before getting on the plane March 31, a plane that shouldn’t have been flown in the first place according to the flight mechanic.
