The New York Jets basically hold the keys to how the top 10 of the 2021 NFL draft will play out.
If they’re looking to draft a QB, they could take one — Zach Wilson from BYU, perhaps? — with the No. 2 pick. Or, if they want to give Sam Darnold another year under center, they could select someone else, but it seems MUCH more likely they’d trade down and get a bunch of assets in return.
According to new Jets receiver Corey Davis, that decision … might have been made?
Here are some quotes from Davis about wanting to play with Darnold and what — it sounds like — he’s been told by the Jets:
New Jets WR Corey Davis on the uncertainty (if there even is uncertainty) at QB for the Jets: "The situation, it is what it is. Obviously I’m coming in with my understand that Sam (Darnold) is the guy. That doesn’t scare me away at all. I’ve seen Sam do great things."

On a follow-up question, WR Corey Davis confirms he signed with the Jets based on the understanding that Sam Darnold will be the QB. So there’s that. #Jets

Asked again if he signed with the Jets believing that Sam Darnold will be his QB in 2021, new Jets WR Corey Davis said "Yes, that’s my understanding."

Hmmmm!
Now, we should all take this with a grain of salt. Maybe the Jets really did sell Davis on the idea of Darnold throwing to him. Or this is what Davis knows he should say, in case the Jets decide to stick with Darnold (you don’t want to have an awkward Michael Brockers and Jared Goff situation). Or Gang Green told Davis they’re sticking with Darnold but they’re secretly focusing on drafting a QB.
It’s still worth monitoring. Isn’t draft season the best?
