Eastern Illinois tagged four straight Arkansas relievers for a total of 10 runs in the seventh and eighth innings to run away with the game.
Arkansas starter Hunter Hollan was fair, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings. But Kody Adcock gave up a single, a double and back-to-back home runs in the seventh as Easter Illinois took a 6-3 lead heading into the final two frames.
It didn’t get better for the Diamond Hogs. Zack Morris started on the hill in the seventh and gave up two singles and a run while allowing another runner to reach via his own error. Gage Wood took over and promptly threw a wild pitch to the first batter he faced then subsequently walked him. The next batter also walked, but only after another wild pitch brought home the second run of the inning.
Parker Coil tried his hand. He gave up runs from four straight Eastern Illinois hitters before the inning mercifully ended.
In all, Arkansas pitchers were touched for the 12 runs, 10 earned, on 14 hits – five of which went for extra bases – and six walks and two wild pitches.
Jace Bohrofen popped a solo home run in the second that tied the game 1-all for Arkansas and the Razorbacks scored two in the fifth on an RBI double from Bolton and an RBI single from Tavian Josenberger.
Arkansas is back at it on Wednesday when Illinois State visits Fayetteville.
