They didn’t wait until quite the last minute, but Arkansas’ win over Alabama came near the wire, anyway.
The No. 6 Diamond Hogs scored three runs in the eighth inning to break a 6-all tie and even the series against Alabama with a 9-6 win from Baum-Walker Stadium on Saturday.
Jace Bohrofen took an 0-2 pitch over the rightfield wall to lead off the inning, Kendall Diggs walked and Caleb Cali sent a two-run shot over the left field fence to provide insurance. Hagen Smith then retired all three Crimson Tide hitters in the ninth to make the series one apiece.
Arkansas’ pitchers had trouble for the second straight game. Alabama had 15 base hits and chased Hogs starter Will McEntire after 3 1/3 innings and carried a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth.
The Razorbacks countered for three when Diggs hit a two-run homer and then tied things in the sixth when Bohrofen had an RBI single.
Bohrofen went 2 for 2 with two walks, two RBI and two runs. Tavian Josenberger joined him as the only other Arkansas batter with more than one hit as the Kansas transfer went 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs.
The rubber match in the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.
