Diamond Heels get back on track with big win over Charlotte

The Diamond Heels got a big win over Charlotte on Tuesday ahead of a five-game week.

After losing the first Atlantic Coast Conference series of the year over the weekend to Virginia, the North Carolina Tar Heels have a big week ahead.

A five-game week is here, capped off by a home series against Pitt in Chapel Hill this weekend. But before we get there, the Tar Heels have to take care of business at Charlotte and against High Point.

On Tuesday, the Tar Heels powered past Charlotte 16-3 behind their big bats on the road.

Charlotte jumped out to a quick lead, scoring 2 in the bottom of the first inning to get the crowd into it. After that, it was all North Carolina as they responded with seven runs in the top of the second backed by a Vance Honeycutt grand slam.

The seven-run inning, in which they sent 12 batters to the plate,  gave the Tar Heels all the momentum as they cruised the victory.  Graduate transfer Kevin Eaise pitched 6.2 innings and got plenty of offense to earn the win.

As a team, UNC had 17 hits as Tomas Frick and Colby Wilkerson each led the way with 3 hits. Honeycutt had 5 RBI’s on the day for what is by far his best game of the young season.
