The North Carolina Tar Heels’ run in the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference is officially over.
After beating Georgia Tech and Virginia earlier in the week, the Tar Heels reached the semifinals. But there they had the task of taking down a red-hot Clemson team that had just swept them in South Carolina a weekend ago.
And the Tigers officially made it four straight wins over the Tar Heels.
Clemson ended UNC’s run with a 10-14 win as the Tigers extended its win streak to 15-straight games.
The Tigers looked impressive throughout, scoring five runs in the first inning off of starter Connor Bovair. His outing was short, lasting just 2/3 of an inning and gave up two home runs in the process.
UNC was able to get a run in the top of the second to make it 5-1 but Clemson answered back with a two-spot in the bottom of the inning for a 7-1 lead.
After Clemson added another in the third, UNC plated runs in the fifth, sixth and ninth innings but the deficit was just too much. The Tigers advance to face off against Miami who took down the top team in the country, Wake Forest, with a 7-2 win.
For North Carolina, they await where they will head for regionals as they are expected to be a No. 2 seed somewhere.
