Diamond Heels extend win streak to five games

The Diamond Heels extend their win streak to five games after beating the North Carolina Aggies 6-4.

The Diamond Heels picked up their 16th win of the season, beating North Carolina A&T 6-4 at home.

UNC started the game with their pitching woes, giving up two runs on two hits in the first inning to the Aggies. However, North Carolina quickly answered back, with Vance Honeycutt hitting his eighth home run of the season to kick off the batting order. Alberto Osuna followed up later in the inning with a homer of his own, bringing home Tomas Frick who was hit with a pitch prior to giving UNC a 3-2 lead.

After that, North Carolina found their groove on the mound with pitcher Will Sandy coming in for Jake Knapp and sitting down six Aggies in a row with two ground out and four strikeouts in two innings. The Tar Heels added cushion to their lead in the third inning, with Hunter Strokely joining the home run party.

The Aggies scored another run in the fourth inning, bringing the game back close. Another run would not occur until the eighth, with A&T attempting a late comeback, but with UNC matching that run in the bottom of the eighth, it was smooth sailing at the start of the 9th as pitcher Matt Poston scored his first save of the season.

This marks UNC’s fifth straight victory, and they will be looking to add more as they prepare for a series against the Duke Blue Devils.
