Diamond Heels earn key series win against N.C. State

The Diamond Heels get their first series win since early March, taking down N.C. State over the weekend.

The UNC baseball (27-18) team ended their streak of series losses and got two much-needed wins, beating N.C. State Wolf Pack (30-15) over the weekend. And this one was a big series to win.

The Diamond Heels had the bats swinging Friday night, out-hitting the Wolf Pack 11 hits to 10. Angel Zarate led the way for UNC going 3 for 6 at the plate while Hunter Stokely had the highlight of the night with a 3-run homer in the 6th inning.

The Heels took game one of the series 8-7.

Game two of the series was pushed to Sunday, leading to a double header after a rain delay Saturday. UNC struggled throughout, only reaching home plate twice, while the NC State Wolfpack had it going. The Diamond Heels had five hits compared to the Wolf Pack’s 17. UNC also lost the walk battle, having only two walks, while giving up seven. N.C. State took game two 9-2.

The final game of the series went much like the first one where both teams stayed consistent throughout in a back and forth affair. UNC won the hit battle 11-9 with 11 strikeouts compared to NC State’s 10.  The clutch moment of the game came in the eight inning when Alberto Osuna homered, giving UNC the lead and ultimately the 7-6 victory.

The Diamond Heelswill be back in action May 10th against Gardner Webb.
