The 23-14 UNC baseball team bounced back Tuesday night, catching a 7-4 victory against the 22-13 Campbell University.
The UNC baseball team snapped Campbells’ 12-game winning streak with impressive hitting despite two fielding errors. UNC got off to an early start in Chapel Hill, with two runs in the first inning off of a Hunter Stokely RBI single that brought in Alberto Osuna and Mac Horvath.
After Campbell evened the score by scoring runs in the 2nd and 4th inning, UNC took the lead in the 5th inning from an Osuna RBI. The Diamond Heels then dominated the 6th inning, adding three more runs with an Angel Zarate single that led to two runs and Horvath finding the home plate, again off a fielder’s choice.
Campbell attempted a comeback in the 7th inning, putting two runs on the board, but would go cold for the rest of the evening. UNC did score one more time in the 7th inning after a Johnny Castagnozzi RBI and finished out strong in the last two innings.
UNC pitcher Connor Bovair locked up his third win of the season, officially going (3-3) so far this season. Sophomore Davis Palermo received his second save on the season.
The UNC baseball team is set to have a three-game series this weekend against the 27-9 Virginia Cavaliers. UNC is currently 8-10 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a dreadful 3-8 away record compared to the Cavaliers’ 19-4 home record. This may look like a tough match-up on paper, but if UNC can get the bats swinging early then they should be able to keep the Cavaliers on their heels.
