The Jacksonville native called into “Out of Bounds” with host John Nabors, seemingly out of the blue. Nabors asked about his timetable.
“Taking it day by day, really. There’s not a timeline, but I’ll know in a few weeks exactly what I’m going to do,” Davis said.
Davis announced he would enter the NBA Draft on April 1, much to the surprise of Arkansas faithful. The 6-foot-3 guard had a breakout season, averaging a career high 10.9 points in more than 33 minutes per game. His shooting was especially important to the Razorbacks’ Sweet 16 as he shot 35% from range. He had shot 27% and 15% the previous two years.
The surprise came largely because Davis hadn’t been listed as a potential pick on most draft boards. Five weeks later, he still isn’t, leading many to think a return to Arkansas is most likely.
Fellow guards Anthony Black and Nick Smith Jr. also declared, as did wings Jordan Walsh and Ricky Council. Black and Smith are projected first-round picks with Black a projected Top-10 selection. Council shows on most boards as a second-round choice and Walsh is on some as a second-rounder.
