The Detroit Tigers (9-12) and Chicago White Sox (13-11) play the third game of a four-game set at Guaranteed Rate Field Wednesday at 8:10 p.m. ET. We analyze Wednesday’s Tigers-White Sox MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.
Series so far: The White Sox triumphed 7-2 Monday and further walloped the Tigs 10-4 Tuesday. Wednesday will showcase a matchup of two top pitching prospects making their big-league debut.
Tigers at White Sox: Projected starting pitchers
RHP Casey Mize at RHP Dane Dunning
Wednesday will mark Mize’s call-up and long-awaited major-league debut.
- The No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft combined for a 2.55 ERA and 106:23 K:BB across two levels in 2019, including Class Double-A Erie. The 23-year-old is skipping Triple-A.
Dunning has had hype for several years, but he hasn’t taken an in-game mound since 2018 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
- The righty had a 2.71 ERA spanning 15 combined starts in High-A and Double-A in 2018.

Prediction
White Sox 6, Tigers 4
I’ll fade the excitement over Mize’s debut. I doubt either of the rookies will go deep into this one or pitch particularly close to a quality start if so, so I’ll side with the more talented White Sox lineup, even with Robert’s uncertain status.
Moneyline (ML)
- Tigers +140
- White Sox -154
Despite the Tigers boasting the No. 1 overall pick from 2018, the books heavily side with the more experienced White Sox lineup. I’ll PASS here and look for a more favorable bet below.
Run line/Against the spread (ATS)
- Tigers +1.5 (-149)
- White Sox -1.5 (+125)
As opposed to the less enthusiastic moneyline, I’ll BET WHITE SOX -1.5 (+125) to net a bigger return from them.
New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the White Sox -1.5 (+125) would return a profit of $12.50.
Over/Under (O/U)
- Over 9 (-115)
- Under 9 (-106)
I predicted a total of 10 but don’t care to make a wager on anything below a double-up given the volatility of two rookies on the mound. PASS.
