Detroit Lions Super Bowl odds: Will Stafford, Patricia figure it out?

Assessing the midseason Super Bowl futures odds for the Detroit Lions, with a look at their odds to win the NFC North.

The Detroit Lions (3-4) slipped back below .500 after taking a 20-point beat down at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. They have some work to do to get back into the NFC North race as both teams in front of them have two more wins (Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears) and each is up 1-0 in the season series.

Below, we analyze the midseason 2020 Detroit Lions Super Bowl odds, odds of winning their division as well as NFL futures and opine on whether they’re worth a Super Bowl futures bet at this time.

For what was billed preseason as a make-or-break season for Detroit head coach Matt Patricia and QB Matthew Stafford, 2020 is trending to be another disappointing season for the Lions.

Stop me if you heard this before, but Detroit has no run game (29th in rushing yards per game) and a bad defense (the Lions are ranked 26th in opponent’s points per game, 28th in opponent’s third-down conversion rate and 26th in opponent’s red zone touchdown conversion rate).

The market has spoken on Detroit’s title hopes as the Lions +20000 current price to win the Super Bowl much juicier than their +8000 preseason odds.

Lions division betting odds

  • Green Bay Packers -358
  • Chicago Bears +350
  • Detroit Lions +1800
  • Minnesota Vikings +3500

If there was a BetMGM market for Detroit making the playoffs I’d handicap that, but the Lions +1800 to win the NFC North is too cheap for me. According to Football Outsiders, Detroit has the ninth-toughest remaining schedule.

The Lions could run down the Bears for second place in the division, but it will be tough. Detroit’s only hope to win the NFC North is if it wins out in a four-game stretch in Week 9-12 against the Vikings, Washington Football Team, Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers.

PASS on the Lions winning the division.

Lions futures picks and predictions

God bless if you can talk yourself into the Lions +20000 to win the Super Bowl. There isn’t a unit on this team that is considered a top-10 position group in football. Detroit has a lot of talent at the skill positions and an above-average offensive line but the defense is at least another offseason away from being good. If you have some loose change to sprinkle on Lions +20000 have at it, but I am not making that play.
