Despite loss, UNC football still projected to a New Year’s Six bowl

With a disappointing loss to UVA now in its rearview, where will UNC’s final game be played? On3 Sports says the Orange Bowl against ‘Bama.

Would the previously-undefeated UNC football team’s loss to 1-win UVA drop it entirely out of the AP Poll?

The initial thought was yes, but granted, we’re deep enough into the college football season where one loss isn’t going to ruin a team.

Carolina fell to just 17th, one spot ahead of ACC contender Louisville. The Cardinals are just one week removed for a disappointing loss of their own, falling to a struggling Pitt squad on the road in a Saturday, Oct. 14 contest.

UNC is actually just a game-and-a-half behind Florida State for the ACC lead, but tied with Louisville at 6-1 (3-1) for second. Despite this, Carolina is still projected to play in a well-known bowl game.

UNC-Alabama in the Orange Bowl?

That’s a rare matchup. It would pit one of college football’s historically best teams (Alabama), against a squad Tar Heel Nation hoped could crash the CFP party, before Saturday’s debacle.

UNC and Alabama have only clashed once before – in the 1993 Gator Bowl. The Crimson won this game 24-10.

Carolina can only dream of an Orange Bowl appearance right now.

While it’d be a nice end result after what transpired recently, the Tar Heels’ only focus should be on dominating a Georgia Tech squad with just three wins.
