Despite another Week 1 letdown, Packers open as big betting favorites over Bears in Week 2

The Packers lost big in Week 1 (again) but still opened as 9.5-point favorites over the Bears in Week 2.

Despite another lackluster and disappointing performance in a Week 1 loss, the Green Bay Packers are still big betting favorites heading into Week 2 of the 2022 season.

The Packers opened as 9.5-point favorites over the 1-0 Chicago Bears at Tipico Sportsbook.

Overall, Matt LaFleur’s team is the third-biggest betting favorite to open Week 2.

The oddsmakers didn’t much care for what happened in Week 1. The Packers fell behind 20-0 and eventually lost 23-7 on the road to the Minnesota Vikings, while the Bears scored a big upset over the San Francisco 49ers at a rain-soaked and sloppy Soldier Field.

Recent history might show why the Packers are still big favorites in Week 2.

Last season, the Packers got beat by 35 points in the season opener but then rebounded to beat the Detroit Lions by 18 points (35-17) in the primetime home opener at Lambeau Field. It was the first of seven straight wins for the Packers after opening 0-1.

Since hiring LaFleur in 2019, the Packers are 6-0 against the Bears, including four straight wins of 10 points or more. The average margin of victory in the last two games between the Packers and Bears at Lambeau Field is 15.5 points.

In 2021, the Packers covered the spread as a favorite of at least 8.5 points four times, including as an 11.5-point favorite over the Lions in Week 2 and as a 12-point favorite over the Bears in December.
