On Saturday, August 27th, the first edition of College Gameday for the 2022 college football season premiered for the always interesting Week 0 matchup weekend, and while host Rece Davis asked analysts Kirk Herbstreit, David Pollack, Lee Corso, and Desmond Howard who they believe will reach, and ultimately win the college football playoff, once analyst’s answer threw us all for a loop.
As the answers began to roll in, the same ole’ stale predictions (though realistic) of Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson, maybe Utah, etc. made the rounds, until Heisman Winner, Super Bowl Champion, and all-around solid human being Desmond Howard made his bold playoff prediction, selecting Baylor, Michigan, Pittsburgh, and yes, your Texas A&M Aggies to reach the final four this season. And that’s not it! Howard picked the Maroon and White beat his alma mater Michigan in the championship game!
Yes, these are all baseless and meaningless predictions that may come to be 25 to 50 percent correct that the end of the season, if even that high. Now here’s why I give Desmond Howard credit; Aside from picking Michigan, which of course he holds some bias towards, taking the coin flip approach and banking on teams like Texas A&M, Baylor, and Pittsburgh to finally break through after years of building towards the future is the right approach, not only to give these fan bases confidence going into the season but to shine a light on a team like the Aggies, who may be young on paper, but are built on immense talent, speed, and elite fundamentals with enough veteran leadership to help guide the ship during the October and November.
Groundless? yes. Fun? you bet! Gig ‘Em, and BTHO Sam Houston State!
