DeShaun Foster has a lot to prove as UCLA coach

A lot to prove for Foster.

There has obviously been plenty of discussion regarding the hire of DeShaun Foster as the head coach of the UCLA Bruins football team. Without a season under the helm, it’s hard to get a good judgment of how the new head coach will do.

But, the folks over at SuperWestSports put together a nice list of the head football coaches they cover and had some opinions on Foster.  They ranked their coaches, with Kyle Whittingham of Utah being the top-ranked head coach.  Dan Lanning of Oregon came in second.

Foster was not ranked due to being a first-time head coach. This is what they went on to say about Foster:

“Foster may be the oddest of the hires to have never even been a coordinator at any level. But he brings with him a big name that will be recognizable to recruits and some time on the staff of a couple of brilliant offensive coaches in Chip Kelly (UCLA) and Kliff Kingsbury (Texas Tech).

Jay Sawvel of Wyoming was also not ranked as he is taking over as a first-year head coach. Trent Bray of Oregon State was another unranked. Timmy Chang came in 22nd, which was last. Chang is the head coach at Hawaii, who is 8-18 in his career.
