Derrick Henry becomes 8th RB in NFL history to reach 2,000 yards

Henry now has three straight 200-yard games against the Texans.

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry has placed himself in a special group in NFL history, as he officially crossed the 2,000-yard mark during the fourth quarter of the Week 17 contest against the Houston Texans.

With his 2,000-yard season, Henry is now the eighth player in league history to hit that total, with the last being Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings, who rushed for 2,097 yards back in 2012.

Here’s a look at the seven other running backs who have hit that mark in NFL history:

1. O.J. Simpson (1973): 2,003 yards

2. Eric Dickerson (1984): 2,105 yards

3. Barry Sanders (1997): 2,053 yards

4. Terrell Davis (1998): 2,008 yards

5. Jamal Lewis (2003): 2,066 yards

6. Chris Johnson (2009): 2,006 yards

7. Adrian Peterson (2012): 2,097 yards

Here’s the run that put Henry over the top:

The Titans are the first franchise in NFL history to have two 2,000-yard rushers, as Chris Johnson also reached that mark back in 2009.

With his latest 200-yard game against the Texans, Henry becomes the first player in NFL history to rush for that many yards or more in three straight games against the same opponent.

Henry will finish the 2020 campaign with his second straight rushing title. He is the first player since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006-07 to accomplish that feat in back-to-back seasons.

But wait, there’s more…

Henry has completed the rare triple crown for running backs, which is leading the NFL in carries, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns.

It isn’t clear if this will be enough for the Alabama product win the Most Valuable Player Award, an honor that usually goes to quarterbacks, but he couldn’t have possibly done more to make the case that he deserves it.
