Denzel Boston has established himself as an elite Big Ten receiver

Even though he’s started just six games, Denzel Boston has become one of the best receivers in the Big Ten.

Getting the ball to wide receiver Denzel Boston early and often has been a big part of the game plan for coach Jedd Fisch this season. In the Washington Huskies’ 27-17 win over the Michigan Wolverines, quarterback Will Rogers turned to Boston right away.

On the first play of the game, Boston ran a double move on cornerback Jyaire Hill and got behind him, picking up 31 yards. That started another strong day for the sophomore from nearby Emerald Ridge High School, who finished with 5 catches for a game-high 80 yards and a touchdown.

“It just comes down to watching film and knowing who you’re playing,” Boston said of the opening play. “We noticed that they bite a lot on those short routes and quick outs, so we wanted to take advantage of it early in the game to make them uncomfortable. The game plan was to come out and hit them hard and see how they respond to that.”

Michigan didn’t respond well, giving up 315 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air, including Boston’s No. 8 score of the year, the most in the Big Ten. He also ranks No. 3 in the conference in yards and No. 4 in receptions in his first year as a starter.

After spending the last two seasons sitting behind Rome Odunze, Boston hasn’t taken long to establish himself as one of the best receivers in the conference.
