[autotag]Martin Truex Jr.[/autotag] joined [autotag]Denny Hamlin[/autotag] at Joe Gibbs Racing in 2019, and the two drivers have been good friends since that point. Hamlin and Truex rarely have on-track encounters and have treated each other well off the race track. However, the two drivers won’t be teammates much longer, as Truex announced that he will retire after the 2024 NASCAR season.
Hamlin spoke to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass and revealed an interesting nugget regarding Truex’s future in NASCAR. If Truex wants to keep racing part-time, specifically in the Daytona 500, Hamlin will have the car ready.
“I told [Martin Truex Jr.] that I will have his Daytona 500 car ready immediately,” Hamlin said. “Just tell me the word…He’s a great driver. Why wouldn’t I? Anytime Martin gets bored and wants to run [in the NASCAR Cup Series], [23XI Racing] would have a seat for him for sure.”

“It’s hard to believe I’ve been teammates with Martin as long as I have and I’ve never had a ‘What the [expletive] Martin’ moment.’ I’m sure that he’s said that to me about me in his head because of things that I’ve done as a teammate. But I’ve never had that moment.”
Truex’s perfect schedule for the 2025 NASCAR season would be “about 10 races,” so the Daytona 500 would be a good event. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver has never won the Daytona 500 but has been close in the past. If Truex wants to compete in the Cup Series part-time, it seems like Hamlin and 23XI Racing will be waiting for him.
