Dennis Schroder will make free agency decision by July 4

Lakers fans may know whether Dennis Schroder will remain with the team very soon.

The Los Angeles Lakers could lose their starting backcourt this summer. Both D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves are set to become free agents. But they also have another key guard about to hit the open market.

Dennis Schröder was a key part of the Purple and Gold this season, both as a starter and off the bench. His defense, ability to score on occasion and overall grit made him a useful asset.

He may be priced out of the Lakers’ reach, because he signed with them on a veteran’s minimum contract last year. According to a video he posted, he plans to decide which team to sign with very soon.

Via Sports Illustrated:

“In a YouTube video posted by Schröder, he notes that he plans to sign a contract with a team by the 4th of July.”

Schröder also may have given a hint in the video that he would like to remain with the Lakers.

“If we stay here, the transition will be easier,” said Schröder in German.

This season marked his second stint with the Purple and Gold, and it is safe to say he made a better impression on his teammates and the team’s fans than he did during his first stint two seasons ago.
