Dennis Gardeck, Antoine Wesley ruled out of season opener

Gardeck’s hand injury will keep him out of the season opener, while Antoine Wesley contracted COVID.

The Arizona Cardinals wrapped up their week of practice on Friday and released their final injury report of the week with game designations. They have two players ruled out.

Linebacker Dennis Gardeck sat out of practice both Thursday and Friday after he suffered a hand injury. He initially fully participated in practice on Wednesday with his recovery from his right knee injury from last season.

With Gardeck out, practice squad linebacker Kylie Fitts, whom the team protected from being signed elsewhere, likely will be elevated to the roster for Sunday.

Wide receiver Antoine Wesley was a new addition to the injury report Friday. He sat out with an illness and was ruled out.

He would later be placed on the COVID reserve.

Tight end Darrell Daniels, who was limited both Wednesday and Thursday with a toe injury, was a full participant Friday and has no game designation for his injury. He will be able to play.

Ruled out:

  • LB Dennis Gardeck (hand, knee)
  • WR Antoine Wesley (illness – COVID reserve)
