Andrus Peat can’t catch a break. The New Orleans Saints were possibly preparing for him to re-enter the starting lineup at left guard after Peat practiced with the first team offense this week, but Saints head coach Dennis Allen said Friday that Peat missed their final practice session with a new injury.
Allen specified that Peat suffered a strained groin muscle, and that the team would “see where he’s at” Saturday before traveling for Sunday’s road game with the Houston Texans.
Durability has been a major concern for Peat throughout his Saints career. Just this season he missed two weeks of training camp with an injured quadriceps muscle before a concussion took him out late in Week 4’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; he wasn’t able to recover from it in time to play against the New England Patriots last week.
Peat has dealt with a variety of injuries throughout his pro career, and he never played in all 16 games before the NFL expanded its regular season in 2021. He’s had to manage everything from a broken arm to ankle and knee issues, as well as several concussions. Let’s hope he won’t miss much more time during what may be his final year in a Saints uniform.
