Demond Williams Jr. had one of the top performances of bowl season

Pro Football Focus gave Demond Williams Jr. one of the highest grades of bowl season.

During a 35-34 loss to the Louisville Cardinals in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies showed they have a budding star at quarterback in true freshman Demond Williams Jr.

In just his second career start, Williams threw for 374 yards and 4 touchdowns with 1 interception while completing 81 percent of his passes. He added 48 yards and another score on the ground in a stellar performance that was one of the best of bowl season, and Pro Football Focus agreed.

The analytics site gave Williams an 85.2 grade for his performance in El Paso, the No. 10 best grade handed out to all bowl game participants outside of the College Football Playoff. Going into 2025 with some game reps under his belt, Williams has an opportunity to take a big step forward in his second season.

Fisch’s coaching staff has brought in a few solid pieces on the offensive line through the transfer portal to protect him, headlined by Kansas State tackle Carver Willis, and also added an experienced wide receiver in former five-star recruit Johntay Cook.

With stars Denzel Boston and Jonah Coleman returning to Montlake, Williams will have a promising cast of weapons around him in 2025 and could help the Huskies take a big step forward in Fisch’s second season at the helm.
