Former Alabama linebacker DeMeco Ryans has officially been hired as the head coach of the team that drafted him back in 2006, the Houston Texans.
Ryans most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, which had one of the strongest defenses in the entire league throughout the course of the 2022 season. Once the 49ers were eliminated from the playoffs in the NFC Championship, it was only a matter of time before he accepted an offer.
He also interviewed for the vacant head coaching position with the Denver Broncos, but recently notified the franchise that he was no longer interested. Being such a high-profile head coaching candidate, many took this to mean he was all-in on the Texans’ job.
