Demaryius Thomas hopes to continue career, reach 10,000 yards

Demaryius Thomas wants to continue to play football to reach 10,000 yards for his career.

Despite back-to-back injury-plagued seasons, Demaryius Thomas is not ready to hang up his cleats.

Thomas was a guest on 104.3 The Fan in Denver on Wednesday and said he intends to play in 2020, though the free agent wideout has yet to receive any interest. Thomas, however, insisted that his recent injury history is a thing of the past and that he’s now in tip-top shape.

“I don’t tell people this because I never like to have excuses and all this, but that year ever since I left Denver, I’ve been hurt; I had that accident,” Thomas said. “This past season I wasn’t able to play like I wanted to because I got hurt … with my Achilles and then I popped my hamstring. I just haven’t been the D.T. I was when I was in Denver. But I’m getting back to myself. I’m at the weight that I want to be at; I’m feeling good. I’m just waiting on a phone call, to be honest.”

Thomas has a goal in mind before he calls it a career. He wants to reach 10,000 total receiving yards. He’s only 237 yards away from accomplishing that.

“I just want to play. I got like 250 yards to reach 10,000 yards as a receiver” Thomas said. “I got to (get that). I still got the urge.”

The 32-year-old Thomas spent the 2019 season primarily with the Jets. He was dealt early in the season from the Patriots to Gang Green in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Thomas showed flashes of what he was with Denver, but couldn’t put together a full season due to the injuries. He was coming off the Achilles injury and then pulled his hamstring with the Jets.

In 11 games, Thomas recorded 36 catches for 433 yards and one touchdown.

Thomas was with the Broncos for the first eight and a half seasons of his career and was one of the league’s best wide receivers before being dealt to the Texans in 2018. He’s a five-time Pro Bowler, two-time Second Team All-Pro and a Super Bowl 50 Champion.
