In a video posted to his Instagram account, Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders gave a passionate speech to his players following the Buffs’ crushing 37-21 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday.
CU couldn’t do much to slow down Kansas running back Devin Neal’s bruising style as he rushed for 207 yards while chewing up the clock. The Buffs had their chances to get back into the game but couldn’t make enough plays or playcalls to turn the momentum.
Coach Prime summed up the beatdown to his team by pointing out that the Buffs were reading the headlines praising how they had played over the past weeks.
“There’s not one of you that can say you played your best game,” Coach Prime told his team. “Nobody in here can say you gave the maximum effort, you gave it all you could. There’s nobody and you see the result. The problem is that you got intoxicated with success. And success is intoxicating. You start believing what they’re saying. You start listening more to what they’re saying. You bought into all that foolishness that you were this, and you went out there, and we got humbled. Coaches, players, everyone, we went out there and got humbled.”
Sanders finished the speech by challenging his Buffs to respond.
“This moment just ain’t about football, it’s about life,” Sanders said. “This is a tremendous life lesson. Let’s learn from it. Let’s learn from it and grow from it. The question is, guys, I’m gonna ask you one last time: where do you go from here?”
