Deion Sanders hasn’t earned the media attention he is getting

A lot of people need a reality check on Deion Sanders.

ESPN’s SEC Network host Paul Finebaum is a big talker. He has had super hot takes over the past few weeks. He didn’t slow down earlier in July, suggesting that USC could move on from Lincoln Riley after this season and replace him with Deion Sanders. Last week, Finebaum torched the Colorado football program, saying that it had a “ridiculously inflated view of itself.”

“(Riley’s) position seems to be in jeopardy since his past two seasons have been quite disappointing,” Finebaum prefaced before saying, “Plus, this would be a perfect situation for Deion Sanders to change his colors and join a team that has, more or less, better chances to win the national championship as compared to Colorado who has only won one championship ever, and that too, in 1990.”

If USC ever wanted to make a change at head coach and pay Riley an enormous buyout just three seasons into his tenure, Sanders would surely be a controversial fit. It brings up the larger point that Deion hasn’t even done well at Colorado. He has been given a ton of publicity for himself and his program and hasn’t parlayed any of it into so much as a bowl game yet. Deion Sanders’ achievements need to begin to match the media attention he receives. So far, his resume isn’t remotely deserving of the attention given to him.
