DeForest Buckner on state of Colts: ‘There’s going to be some changes’

When speaking with reporters, DeForest Buckner shared his thoughts on the state of the Colts: “There’s going to be some changes.”

Following the Indianapolis Colts’ devastating loss to the now 3-13 New York Giants in Week 17, DeForest Buckner provided his perspective on what’s coming for this Indianapolis Colts’ team in the coming months.

“It’s one of those things where, like I said, this offseason there’s going to be some changes,” Buckner said via ESPN’s Stephen Holder, “and sometimes those changes are going to be uncomfortable for people.”

In a must-win game to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Colts’ defense would surrender 38 points to a Giants’ offense that was averaging a league-worst 14 points per game prior to this matchup.

As has been the case for much of the season on the defensive side of the football, explosive plays and poor tackling were at the root of the on-field issues the Colts experienced.

Buckner would add that the “little details” are what was missing and ultimately hurting the Colts.

The bigger issue at hand is that, as Pat McAfee laid out in a social media post recently, the Colts issues seem to go well beyond their play on the field.

This also isn’t the first time in recent memory that the Colts have lost in this fashion. Sunday’s game was now the third time in four seasons that the Colts were eliminated from playoff contention in the final weeks of the season by their own undoing.

And similarly to this week’s loss to the Giants, the Colts were eliminated from playoff contention in 2021 by the two win Jaguars in the final game of the season.

From top to bottom, the results tell us that this team just isn’t good enough and it’s been that way for several years now. So, as Buckner said, some form of change–we will see to what extent–should take place this offseason.
