De’Anthony Melton talks Sixers being in limbo waiting for Round 2

De’Anthony Melton discusses the Philadelphia 76ers being in a state of limbo until the Eastern Conference semifinals begin.

CAMDEN, N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers are in wait-and-see mode as they prepare for the second round. It was assumed the Boston Celtics would finish the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday at home and set up the semifinals matchup. Trae Young had other plans.

Young drilled a game-winner with 1.8 seconds left as the Hawks rallied to beat the Celtics, 119-117. The win allowed the Sixers to get some more rest because the semifinals will not begin until May 1. Philadelphia last played on April 22 so they will have over a week to rest and prepare.

But prepare for whom? Without an opponent, there is no one to really prepare for. That has the team in limbo.

“It definitely is,” laughed De’Anthony Melton. “Finishing that last game — it’s what we want. We wanted a break to make sure everybody can get shots up and get even more healthier and just get prepared for whoever we play. I think we’re ready and we’re worried about the next day and that’s where we’re taking it.”

The playoffs have had an exciting start with explosive performances, including Young’s big shot.

“Honestly, I just think it’s fun to watch basketball,” Melton said. “I think that’s what the NBA is coming to. There’s so much talent in this league so sometimes, on any given night, you don’t know who’s gonna win. You see a lot going on right now in the league with the bottom seeds winning.”

The downtime allows Melton and the Sixers to lounge around and enjoy the games.

“I’m just excited to watch basketball,” Melton finished. “I’m ready for whoever and I’m just worried about attacking the next day and making sure my body’s right.”
