CHARLESTON, S.C. — The first move of the offseason for the Philadelphia 76ers was made on draft night in June when they sent Danny Green to the Memphis Grizzlies in a deal that brought De’Anthony Melton to Philadelphia.
The Sixers liked Melton for his ability at both ends of the court. He can knock down an open 3 and can bother his opponent on defense. That type of production is going to come in handy when the season begins.
As they convened for training camp on Tuesday at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, Melton stood out for his defensive work out on the floor.
“Other than PJ (Tucker), the best defensive player by a long shot, was De’Anthony Melton,” said coach Doc Rivers. “He actually, in some ways, screwed practice up because we were having guys pick up full court, but we couldn’t run our offense. He was disrupting the guards a lot today.”

Melton is going to play a big role for this Sixers team, and his play on Day 1 of training camp is a prime example.
