Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemang, a pair of music executives, created an initiative early Monday morning, #TheShowMustBePaused, which was set to take place on Tuesday — with the intention of disrupting the workweek and encourage everyone to “take a beat, for an honest, reflective and productive conversation about what actions we need to collectively take to support the Black community.”
From there, the day has become known as Blackout Tuesday, as members of the music industry posted to social media in support. This then led to many outside of music posting a black square to social media. Among those who’ve done this are Brooklyn Nets big man DeAndre Jordan and guard Spencer Dinwiddie.
While Jordan didn’t include a message on his Instagram post, Dinwiddie chose to write the following:
As a unit we are capable of anything.#blacklivesmatter
