DeAndre Hopkins on pace to break Larry Fitzgerald’s single-season reception record

Larry Fitzgerald has reached 109 receptions twice. Hopkins is on pace for 115.

The Arizona Cardinals have grown accustomed to big receiving numbers from Larry Fitzgerald. In fact, he has the top four single-season totals in receptions.

He set the franchise record with 103 receptions in 2005 and then beat it three years in a row from 2015-2017, catching, 109, 107 and 109 passes.

His record of 109 receptions in a season is about to be broken.

DeAndre Hopkins has 94 catches through 13 games for 1,155 yards and five touchdowns.

With only 16 catches in the final three games, he will reach 110 and break Fitzgerald’s mark.

He is averaging 7.2 catches per game, so just by keeping pace, he will get to 115 catches.

The Cardinals have only had three players ever reach 100 catches. Fitzgerald has done it five times. Anquan Boldin did it twice and Larry Canters once.

Hopkins’ career-high is 115 catches, set in 2018.

If he can beat his pace by a little bit, not only will he have a franchise record, he will have a career-best in only his first season with the team.

He could reach even higher levels of productions in the years to come. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury there is still more that can be done.

“We’re all still kind of learning and growing together, but he’s a remarkable talent,” he told reporters this week. “I think there’s a ton of room for growth there, and I’m hoping we’ve only kind of just scratched the surface.”

That is exciting to think about in the seasons to come.
