David Stern to be inducted into Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

KNOXVILLE — Longtime National Basketball Association commissioner David Stern will be inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021.

Stern passed away on Jan. 1, nearly three weeks after suffering a brain hemorrhage. He was 77.

Stern will join the Class of 2020, which had its induction postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

That class includes former Lady Vol star Tamika Catchings, Swin Cash and Lauren Jackson.

Catchings starred in the WNBA after her time on Rocky Top. She is the general manager of the Indiana Fever, the team for which she played the bulk of her career.

Stern is also a member of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, the International Basketball Hall of Fame and the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

The Class of 2021 is scheduled to be enshrined on June 21 next year.
