Avanesyan vs. Kelly: Tale of the tape

David Avanesyan

Avanesyan (26-3-1) heads into this one on a three-fight win streak, including a pair of victory over Kerman Lejarraga in 2019. These two were scheduled to face each other in Dec. 2018, due to a number of reasons. In fact, this is the fourth attempt in four years to get these two together, so it is a highly-anticipated fight, especially across the pond. The 32-year-old Avanesyan has 30 professional fights to his name, nearly three times the mileage than his counterpart, and he has recorded 14 knockout wins in his career. But he is at a disadvantage, as Kelly has a 72-inch to 69-inch reach advantage, and he stands two inches shorter than his counterpart.

Josh Kelly

Kelly (10-0-1) has not tasted defeat in his career, but he has been a bit underwhelming over his past three fights. He won in Phoenix against Wiston Campos by unanimous decision Dec. 20, 2019, and had a draw at Madison Square Garden against Ray Robinson before that. In his last appearance in London, he picked up a UD win over Przemyslaw Runowski April 20, 2019.

AVANESYAN (+140) has actually been a little more impressive in recent years, and a mild upset of Kelly (-165) is worth playing on the 3-way line. The draw against Robinson is a cautionary tale on why you shouldn’t take Kelly. He is a talented fighter, but if he gets involved with a brawler, he doesn’t seem to like it much. Avanesyan is a veteran who can really bring the smoke, and that’s dangerous to Kelly’s chances.
