Dave Serrano returns to Knoxville for coaching position

Former Tennessee baseball head coach Dave Serrano returns to Knoxville for coaching position.

Former Vols’ baseball head coach Dave Serrano is returning to Knoxville, Tennessee.

Serrano was hired as head coach at Johnson University Monday.

He coached the Vols from 2012-17 and compiled an overall record of 157-163 (55-120 SEC).

Serrano also served as head coach at UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge. He briefly served as head coach for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the Alaska League this summer.

Johnson University athletics director Brandon Perry said he looks for Serrano to bring success to the school’s baseball program.

“Coach Serrano’s resume speaks for itself,” Perry said in a press release. “We feel that his addition is going to raise expectations for the baseball program and our entire department. His experience coaching at the highest levels will help our athletic department take a huge leap forward. We were looking for a leader to help our baseball program compete in the AAC and nationally in NAIA. Coach Serrano certainly has the ability to build a program that can achieve that goal. But it is also Coach Serrano’s commitment to holistic development that really excited us as it aligns perfectly with who we are. Our baseball program will be influential in the community because of his leadership.”
