Dave DeGuglielmo hired by Giants so let’s revisit his shameful treatment of Raiders LG Denzelle Good

Hey, remember that time Dave DeGuglielmo tried to ruin Denzelle Good’s career after Good’s brother was murdered? Well, that guy just got another NFL job. So, in the spirit of not letting such things get swept under the rug, let’s revisit it.

In October of 2018, Good’s brother was murdered in a shooting in North Carolina. Good, who was with the Indianapolis Colts at the time, left the team for a week to be with his family. When he returned, His offensive line coach DeGuglielmo was pissed. He didn’t think Good should have left the team.

Ok, so, he has his opinion, even if it’s a terrible one. But DeGuglielmo didn’t just show a complete lack of support for Good’s tragedy, DeGuglielmo was downright furious at Good.

“He wanted players that fight through things and play,” Good told the Athletic in December of 2018.

The week before Good left the team to be with his family, he was the starter and played every snap (91) in a week four game against division rival Texans. When Good returned to the team, he was made inactive.  DeGuglielmo then made his intentions clear to Good.

“He told me that as long as I was here, I would never play for him again,” Good said. “I would never play another down because he felt disrespected. I wasn’t going to play even though I felt I was as good anyone on the field playing.”

Upon hearing this, Good did the only thing he could to try and revive his career. He went to Colts GM Chris Ballard and requested his release and it was granted. He was waived on December 2, the Raiders claimed him the next day and he played on December 9 in Oakland when the team faced the Steelers. He then started the final three games.

Good is now in his third season with the Raiders and was recently called the team’s MVP by his coaches and teammates for filling in at right tackle at a moment’s notice and then left guard for the past seven weeks. I agreed with this and made him my Raiders midseason MVP.

DeGuglielmo was fired by the Colts after that 2018 season. He has since found work with the Dolphins in 2019 and today was hired by the Giants to replace offensive line coach Marc Colombo who was so angry at the team wanting to bring in DeGuglielmo to ‘help out’ that he cussed out head coach Joe Judge and was fired and replaced by DeGuglielmo.

DeGuglielmo is still finding work, albeit a one-off for a 5-11 Dolphins team and now a midseason replacement on a 2-7 Giants team. Meanwhile, Good was never unemployed and is starting for a 6-3 Raiders team. So, there is at least some justice in the world.
