Daryl Morey is one of the more interesting characters in sports. He is a forward thinker who is always looking to improve any team that he is working with and he is not afraid to make a bold move.
During his time with the Houston Rockets, he tailored the team around the skills of James Harden and he went very small in order to use their up-tempo style. With the Philadelphia 76ers, he has already made a few trades to better fit the roster around stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.
Before he signed with the Sixers, he received a few offers from other teams. That is to be expected due to the success he has had in his career, but there were a few teams outside of basketball who reached out and gave interest in him.
Morey hopped on Rich Eisen’s podcast and he said an NFL team as well as a baseball team reached out:
It’s pretty cool that a couple NBA teams, NFL team, a baseball team, a couple places reached out so that was that was, you know, Rich because you’ve made a transition. Sometimes you just don’t know. You hope that there’s something out there, but you don’t know.
Eisen then wanted clarity on the NFL team and whether it was for a general manager role and Morey said:
Yeah, they did actually. I told him I probably don’t know enough. I’ll be honest, Rich, you and I have talked about this. I think the NFL, I mean, it would be very presumptive for me to think I could help an NFL team but they did reach out and I just figured my skills are are just much higher and better and in the NBA, just with the experience and everything.

It is interesting to hear about other teams in other leagues reaching out to Morey about bringing him in to run their teams. Morey’s experience has been mostly in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, the Rockets, and now the Sixers. However, he does have an innovative mind so it’s not unfathomable to think about.
